About Me
Hi, my name is Ivan Ćurković and I am the owner and creator of Curkovic.ca. I am also the individual responsible for BuskoBlato.org, a website that now features an expanded family tree for both my family and the entire Buško Blato area. For those of you that don’t know, Buško Blato is a predominantly Croatian and Roman Catholic region in Bosnia-Hercegovina that has served as home to my Ćurković forefathers for at least three hundred years.
As the title of my current domain would suggest, the main purpose of this blog is to write about the single, most important aspect of my life: the Ćurković family or more specifically, the deceased members of the Ćurković family.
I find genealogy and history fascinating and am using all means necessary to enhance my knowledge about my family. This means interacting with people worldwide to collect and share as much information about my family as humanly possible.
Rather than design and build a regular website, I have decided to do something a little more fun: I have aimed to develop this website in the blog format. I chose to write a blog for three main reasons:
1. To record my memories and knowledge regarding my family and Croatian culture.
2. To improve my writing skills.
3. To one day use what I have written to organize and prepare a book about my family’s history so that future generations here in Canada will remember their Croatian roots.
For those born outside the country of their forefathers, learning about one’s roots can be a difficult and frustrating task, especially for those individuals a few generations removed from their immigrant ancestors. My goal is to write articles that will be interesting, inspiring and of help to others researching their own Croatian roots.
I enjoy getting feedback from others on the web. If you have ideas for topics you would like to see in the future, then feel free to contact me. In addition to English, I speak Croatian and enjoy receiving e-mails from people worldwide. I am open to any suggestions brought forth and will do my best to answer every e-mail I receive.
When I’m not researching my family history, I’m usually enjoying life with my wife, Milka. As you can see, I also enjoy eating schnitzel…and in case you’re wondering – yes, I did finish it!
